YOUNG STAR IN TOWN FOR HEARTLAND
from WTHR, October 13, 2005
Indianapolis, Oct. 13 - She's one of Hollywood's biggest stars, Dakota Fanning, an 11-year-old actress whose film credits include War of the Worlds and now Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story.
Regarding her latest movie, she explains, "Dreamer is about three generations of horsemen and women, me. My father is a horse trainer and I just love everything to do with horses. My father has had some bad luck in the horse business and he's trying to push me out of it. But I love it so much I'm determined to get into the business and this one horse really brings our family together."
She says the experience has added to her interest in horses. "I think we've always watched the Kentucky Derby and everything like that, but I'm definitely a little bit more interested now."
She's so interested that Dakota received a gift from her co-star, Kurt Russell. He bought her a horse. "It's a Palomino quarterhorse named Goldie. And I've had him for about a year now and he's five." She adds that she rides him "every weekend."
Fanning will be on the red carpet Thursday at the Imax Theatre, but will carve time out for one other thing. "I'm going to go to the Steak 'N Shake."
The young actress loves hamburgers in addition to acting. She's earned a Critics Choice Award, an MTV Movie Award a Screen Actors Guild nomination.
She has worked with big stars. But this 11-year-old has a favorite actress. "Jodi Foster ... she was my age when started out and as an adult she was acting and now she kind of directs. I would love to be like her."
