FANNING TAKES SHOWEST KUDOS
Film Stew, March 13, 2006
by Mark Umbach
Even though the convention is already underway, ShoWest is still handing out kudos, and the latest to receive honors is young thesp Dakota Fanning, who has been named ShoWest Supporting Actress of the Year. The actress will be honored Thursday during the closing night ceremonies of the exhibitors' convention, held annually in Las Vegas and hosted by the National Association of Theatre Owners. At only 12 years of age, Fanning already has an impressive resume to her name. This year alone she has been seen in Nine Lives, Hide and Seek, Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story and the blockbuster hit War of the Worlds. She'll next be seen in the live-action adaptation of Charlotte's Web for Paramount, due out this December. Fanning first built a name for herself starring with Sean Penn in 2001's I Am Sam. The critically-acclaimed role earned the actress a SAG Award nomination. Following that performance, she went on to star in films including Trapped, Uptown Girls and Man on Fire, as well as the well-received Steven Spielberg-produced mini Taken, on the Sci Fi Channel.
