KANSAS TO GET ITS DAY IN THE SUN
from Kansas City, October 17, 2005
by Hearne Christopher Jr
Dakota was here
The hottest child star in Hollywood, Dakota Fanning, powered her way through a day of endless appearances here last week. With a grace, composure and humor that belied her 11 years of age.
One highlight: signing autographs and posing for hundreds of photographs at a packed screening of her new movie, “Dreamer,” for local Girl Scouts at AMC Town Center. When the Atlanta preteen isn't making movies she's a third-generation Girl Scout.
“She has poise, charm, yet she really acts like a normal child who's not famous,” says local movie publicist Jody Rovick , who ferried Fanning during her stay here. “She's definitely an actress that's going to go far.”
Any bloopers of the horsy variety on the movie shoot?
“Well, I wasn't on the horse that much,” Fanning says. “But there was always something funny happening with the horses because there were five of them.”
¦ Her favorite music: “ Gwen Stefani ,” she says. “But I haven't seen her in concert — I've never been to a concert.”
¦ Favorite summer movie besides “War of the Worlds” starring Fanning and Tom Cruise : “Dreamer,” she quips.
¦ Favorite extracurricular activities: “I play the piano and I horseback ride,” she says. “Those are the two main things that I do. I've been riding for about a year.”
¦ Got a boyfriend? “No.”
¦ Fanning's mom helped out with the 411 on Fanning's planned Halloween getup this year: Scarlett O'Hara .
