FANNING GETS TANGLED IN WEB
from Film Stew, December 09, 2004
For a ten-year-old, she's certainly in high demand. Young thesp Dakota Fanning has signed on to star in Gary Winick's live-action/CGI big screen version of Charlotte's Web, based on E.B. White's classic children's story, for Paramount Pictures. The project is slated to begin production in late January in Melbourne, Australia.
Adapted by Susannah Grant and Karey Kirkpatrick, Web centers on a young farm girl who teams up with a spider named Charlotte in order to save Wilbur, their friend the pig, from the butcher's block.
Jordan Kerner's Kerner Entertainment is producing with Paramount, Nickelodeon Movies and Walden Media also producing and co-financing. Paul Neesan of Kerner will executive produce with Julia Pistor of Nickelodeon. Karen Rosenfelt is overseeing for Paramount.
Fanning, repped by Osbrink Talent, is currently filming Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds, co-starring Tom Cruise. She is also attached to star in DreamWorks' Dreamer with Kurt Russell and in live-action adaptations of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, also for DreamWorks. Other Fanning credits include Man on Fire, Uptown Girls and I Am Sam.
