DAKOTA > CHARACTERS QUOTES > DREAMERCale Crane:There used to be horses in that barn. At least, that's what my grandfather says. We're probably the only horse farm in Lexington Kentucky, that doesn't have one horse. Not one. Cale Crane: I like him. Cale Crane: Sonya likes Twizzlers. Cale Crane: She going to race today? Cale Crane: Think she'll win? Cale Crane: Go, Sonya! Cale Crane: She all right? Cale Crane: I need to help them, Mom. Cale Crane: She'll never race again? Cale Crane: Pop, who was Dreamcatcher? Cale Crane: Make all that money and get to eat as much pie as you want? Cale Crane: Manny's gonna take me to watch him ride a racehorse. And then tonight, I'm going to muck out Sonya's stall. I'm thinking about painting it. Cale Crane: Especially after dad said, "There will never be another horse in this farm as long as I live." Cale Crane: Pop said Dad's the best horseman. Says he has a gift. Cale Crane: That was fast! Nice boots. Cale Crane: You ever ride in races? Cale Crane: What was the name of the horse? Cale Crane: Did you ever ride him again? Cale Crane: You never raced again. Cale Crane: But you still excersize racehorses. Cale Crane: I'm sorry about your nightmares, Manny. Cale Crane: Good night. Cale Crane: From Mom. Cale Crane: Pop said this farm used to be beautiful. Cale Crane: Waveland, Blue Jezebel and Miss Moffett. Cale Crane: Pop said he built those stalls and filled them with horses. Cale Crane: But you wanted to keep the yearlings and race them, right? Cale Crane: So you got Pop to keep some yearlings so you could train them, race them. Cale Crane: It's about a king and his castle... and a magic horse. Cale Crane: So where are you going? Cale Crane: About a stud for Sonya? Cale Crane: Yeah. I'll come. Cale Crane: Fusaichi Pegasus. He won the Kentucky Derby. Do you see him? That's Fusaichi! Giant's Causeway. Johannesburg. He won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile. Cale Crane: Nice to meet you too. Cale Crane: That's not... what is that? Cale Crane: Grand Slam? Unbelievable! Cale Crane: He's got muscles everywhere. Cale Crane: He's a horse. Cale Crane: So when are you going to take me to the races? Cale Crane: So I can take the Racing Form and The Blood-Horse, right? Cale Crane: So I should leave them? Cale Crane: Pop wanted me to give this to you. Cale Crane: I'm eating my dessert in the barn. Cale Crane: Any chance you'll keep the foal? Race him or her? Cale Crane: Sonador? Cale Crane: Good night, Dreamer. Cale Crane: I'm going to Pop's. Cale Crane: She's not going to have a baby now? Cale Crane: I'm sorry, Sonya. Cale Crane: We're going to run away. We're going to run far away. We're just going to go for a little walk. Cale Crane: Stop, Sonya! Sonya, stop! Cale Crane: Dad, she won't stop! I can't make her stop! Cale Crane: Who's Mariah's Storm? Cale Crane: How's she look? Cale Crane: Big as in strong? Cale Crane: That's mean. That's mean. Cale Crane: Third place! So, what'd she get? Cale Crane: Claimed? You said she wouldn't get claimed. Cale Crane: What was the tag? How much did you get for her? Cale Crane: You just sold Sonador. Cale Crane: I guess there was some chance. She's gone. Cale Crane: Oh, please don't treat me like a little kid. You were just trying to get some of your money back. I get it, it's business. Cale Crane: You lied to me. You said I'd always have Sonador, you stood right there and said it. You raced her, and she got claimed. Cale Crane: She wasn't for sale! Cale Crane: She wasn't just some race horse. She was our horse. Cale Crane: The stupid one about the king? Cale Crane: So you like the stupid king? Cale Crane: I love the stupid king. Cale Crane: Sonya! Sonya! You came home! I'm so glad you're back! How'd you get her back? Cale Crane: Um, yeah. Let's just blow her out. Cale Crane: Been reading all of Sonya's records. She won over 200,000 in graded company. Cale Crane: Qualifies her for a lot of stakes races. I looked through the conditions book. Cale Crane: I want you to help me. I want you to help me train her. Cale Crane: I want to thank everyone for coming. And I've scouted all of Sonador's possible races and I've picked one I know she can win. Cale Crane: Saturday, October 29th. Gotten the best jockey. His name is Manolin Vallarta. Cale Crane: You once told me you were the greatest jockey in the world and I believe you. Cale Crane: You're right. We shouldn't run in any race the same day as the Breeders' Cup. That's why we're going to run in the Breeders' Cup. Cale Crane: Do you know what the selection process is? Cale Crane: The last seven they base on overall performance during the year. But they do have the ability to make a judgement call. I'm going to take a shot. It's a long shot, but, why not Sonador? Why not us? Cale Crane: Five furlongs in 1.01 and change. Cale Crane: She was breezing dad, don't worry. Cale Crane: They're good. They look good. Cale Crane: You're doing good Manny, the doughnuts aren't that good. Cale Crane: Good girl. Yes, come on. Come on, Sonya. Cale Crane: I'm up. I'm up. Cale Crane: I'm Cale Crane. Miss Cale Crane. Cale Crane: Yes, sir. She'd have that many points this year, except she was injured. Cale Crane: Right here, sir. Cale Crane: I mailed it. Today. Cale Crane: Yes, sir, I am. Cale Crane: So how much are you going to bet on Sonador to win the Classic? Do you think she can win? You got to think she can win. What's the harm in that? Say "I think she can win." Cale Crane: She needs to hear you say that. Cale Crane: I'm not selling her. Cale Crane: You're running Goliath's Boy in the Classic? Cale Crane: Do you think Goliath's Boy remembers what Sonya's butt looks like? Cale Crane: 'Cause it's all he's going to be seeing on race day. Cale Crane: You should stop training. We don't have the money to run. Going down to the Breeders' Cup to tell them we're dropping out of the race. Cale Crane: Nobody ever thought we'd get in. Cale Crane: Great idea, dad! Cale Crane: What are you going to say? Cale Crane: I'm here to see Prince Sadir. Cale Crane: Prince Sadir, I'm Cale Crane. Cale Crane: This is my dad and my granddad. Cale Crane: 40,000 for the nomination free and 80,000 for the entrance free. Cale Crane: My horse will beat every horse that shows up. Cale Crane: Run hard tomorrow. Run hard for my dad. He deserves a good run. Cale Crane: She's ready to run. You saved her life. She's just returning the favour. She's here to run for you. Cale Crane: Get him away! Get him away! Get him away! Cale Crane: Dad... are you afraid? Are you afraid that we're going to come in dead last? Cale Crane: What's she telling you? Cale Crane: Let's go! Cale Crane: Good luck! Bye! Cale Crane: This is going to be great! Cale Crane: I know. That'd be us. Cale Crane: This way, yeah. That's it. Cale Crane: Hold on, Manny! Cale Crane: Go, Sonya! Cale Crane: "You are a great champion. When you ran, the ground shook, the sky opened and mere mortals parted. Parted the way to victory, where you'll meet me in the winner's circle, and I'll put a blanket of flowers on your back." Back | Home |
